CAPISTRANO MISSION
The
mission of San Juan Capistrano was located three “short legues” 2
from that of San Antonio de Valero, almost due east. It had sufficiently
large lands for both planting and grazing. From its foundation the
missionaries had baptized 847 Indians and buried 645. the mission
was composed of 51 families of Orejon, Sayopin, Famaque and Pingüique
Indians, who totaled 203 persons.
A well-built room, made of 25 varas (approximately 22.5 meters long), served as church and sacristy
